North Texas LifeStar

Wilson N. Jones Medical Center is working with North Texas LifeStar, an air ambulance service, to cut response times in emergency situations. The medical helicopter, which can often be seen on the roof of the WNJ Main Campus, is used to support emergency medical needs in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma and services a 150-mile radius of Sherman. While the helicopter is centrally located at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center, the LifeStar team serves a number of medical centers in the area including Texoma Medical Center, Gainesville Memorial, Northeast Medical Center, the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma and others.

The service is aimed at decreasing the transport time of critically injured patients so that they receive needed trauma care or emergency transportation in the fastest time possible. This approach to medical care demonstrates the value of combining high quality service providers with tertiary centers to expand these much-needed services.
