The WNJ Foundation.
The Wilson N. Jones Medical Center Foundation, the
philanthropic arm of Wilson N. Jones Medical Center, was chartered on December
13, 1990 as a not-for-profit corporation established solely to promote
community understanding and to secure financial support for the hospital. The
Foundation is responsible for coordinating all fundraising activities of the
hospital, while also acknowledging all gifts and grants, managing and
disbursing funds, and conducting special events to enhance the image of the
hospital.
The WNJ Foundation is administered by a voluntary Board of Directors from the
community and provides a supportive bond between Wilson N. Jones Medical Center
and the people it serves. Because the Foundation is a separate corporation from
the hospital, it can better coordinate charitable support and assist the
hospital in meeting the community's growing healthcare needs. Since 1990, gifts
to the WNJ Foundation have totaled over $6.5 million. The Foundation Board
oversees the disbursement of these funds to support the hospital with on-going
programs such as the patient assistance fund, education fund, humanitarian fund
for employees as well as unexpected equipment needs that cannot be provided
through the hospital's capital budget.
Additionally, over 80 volunteers from the community serve on various committees
of the Foundation's Development Council. Committee members assist the
Foundation in the areas of annual support and major gift solicitation,
community and business relations, and planned giving. These volunteers also
assist with the planning and coordination of the annual Texoma Scramble fundraising
golf tournament, the annual Health By Design seminar for women,
and the WNJ Community Breakfast.
Programs operating under the auspices of the WNJ Foundation include the Wishing
Well, an organization granting wishes to children in southern Oklahoma
and north Texas who suffer from life-threatening or catastrophic illnesses; US
Too, a support group for men who are faced with the diagnosis of
prostate cancer or persons interested in obtaining prostate cancer information,
UsToo! Texoma; and Time Out, a respite care program for
adults suffering from memory loss but are still capable of benefiting from
socialization and structured activities.
